Group Build FAQS

20160601_113916What size can groups be?

Groups can range in size from just a couple to 15 people depending on the site and project.  (Note: Larger groups may be accommodated depending on the available projects.)

What time does the build day begin?

Most workdays are from 8 AM to 4 PM for New Build Construction and  A Brush With Kindness.

How far in advance should we schedule our build?

If you are looking for a week day, we typically ask for at least a month notice. If you are looking for a Saturday, we will ask that you not schedule later than two months out. If you have a specific date in mind, we will try our best to accommodate that but we ask that your group is flexible. If your group would like custom scheduling, please see our hb-fuller-company-oct-13sponsorship opportunities here.

How often does Habitat build?

We build all year round! Fortunately for us, there is no slow time when it comes to building homes for families. We will however end a day early if it is too hot, raining too hard to be productive, or snowing. Our construction site will also close for inclement weather if the Evergreen School District is closed. When in doubt, email volunteer@ehfh.org.

What if some members of the group can’t start volunteering until the afternoon?

It is important that all group members are at the site at the beginning of the shift.  If a volunteer misses the morning orientation and safety overview, they will not be able to volunteer that day.

What exactly is the Group Captain?

The Group Captain is a volunteer member of the Group who will be available before the build day to make sure everyone completes the necessary forms.  The Group Captain will also assist with sign-in and collection of the Waiver of Liability and Volunteer Medical Emergency Information the day of the build.  The Group Captain will need the most up-to-date list of group members attending the build.dsc_0300

What do I need to bring?

We will provide the necessary tools but it never hurts to bring a hammer, tape measure, nail apron, chalk box, eye protection/sun glasses, earplugs, utility knife, rain gear and sun block.  Bring work gloves and other safety items you prefer.

What should I wear?

Wear sturdy shoes appropriate for a construction site and clothes you won’t mind tearing or staining.  Wear clothes in layers so that you can add or subtract, depending on the temperature.  We work in all kinds of weather, so come dressed appropriately.

What forms do I need to have?13227349_1122156287843250_1026281836693257439_o

Each group member should bring a signed Adult Release and Waiver of Liability (or the Minor Release and Waiver of Liability for group members 17
and under) and completed Medical Emergency Information form to the site.

What are the age requirements for volunteers?

All volunteers who work on the New Build Construction Site must be 16 years or older.  If a volunteer is 14 or older, they may work on A Brush With Kindness projects.  If you have younger participants, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss ways to get involved for younger groups.  Anyone who is under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a Release and Waiver of Liability for Minors.att-aug-5

For any other questions, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@ehfh.org or (360) 737-1759.
