A Women Build Tea to Remember

The second annual “Women Build Holiday Tea” was held on Saturday, December 1, 2012.  This year the festivities where held at the beautifully restored Artillery Barracks in historic Vancouver, Washington.

As attendees gathered around the numerous silent auction items of wonderful gifts donated by supporters and craftsmen, you could feel the excitement of the holiday season in the air. Historic Fort Vancouver. This unique historic venue was the perfect setting for the beginning of the holiday season and the successful fundraiser for Evergreen Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build.

Guests enjoyed a wonderful assortment of flavorful dishes, catered by Delicious Dishes, as they listened to Lee Rafferty, Executive Director of the Vancouver’s Downtown Association, give a delightful accounting of the simple beginnings of her successful business venture, Spanky’s. Lee emphasized the importance of “not worrying about what you don’t have, but focusing on what you do have”. Lee has lived in Vancouver since 1974 and has a wealth of experience working with new businesses and Women owned businesses.  She is very excited and passionate about being part of the community and the future possibilities.

The mission of the Women Build program is to empower women to take action against poverty housing conditions by nurturing, recruitment and the training of women to build simple, decent, affordable homes. Women from all walks of life are brought together to address in a concrete way the housing crisis facing families in our community.  This is done by supporting the mission with our time, energy and financial support.
