On September 11, 2013 Evergreen Habitat for Humanity will hold its annual ‘Raising the Roof’ breakfast at the Vancouver Hilton Hotel. Clive Rainey, Habitat for Humanity’s first volunteer, will join us and share stories from Americus Georgia and Guatemala, where he now resides. Clive joined Habitat in 1977 and is responsible for the concept of “sweat equity”, using family’s unskilled labor on their house and others as their down payment. Sweat equity, is a key part of every Habitat build nationwide and in 80 countries worldwide.
During his 36 years of service he has traveled the world and challenged Habitat affiliates to serve as leaders in their communities in the effort to eliminate substandard housing. Clive was instrumental in helping to make Habitat for Humanity one of the most recognized brands in the world.
You won’t want to miss your opportunity to hear Clive’s passion for Habitat’s mission and his career long experiences with building homes and hope for families worldwide. Evergreen Habitat’s projects will be highlighted at the breakfast and Habitat families will speak about the affiliate’s home-ownership program.
“We are excited about this opportunity to be in the presence of a Habitat legend. His passion and commitment throughout his life long career serves as an example to the rest of us that one person can make a difference,” said Josh Townsley, executive director, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity. “We hope attendees at this year’s breakfast will be as inspired by Mr. Rainey as we are. He is an example to us all and we are honored to have him as our guest speaker.”
