An Ending is a New Beginning
An Ending is a New Beginning
We believe that everyone deserves a safe, decent, and affordable place to call home. That mission has been the driving force behind our work, and it continues to fuel our efforts as we celebrate the completion of the final homes at Johnson Village, an affordable housing community in Vancouver, Washington.
This milestone represents more than just the final construction on the nine-home project—it marks the culmination of years of collaboration and the unwavering support of our volunteers, homebuyers, donors, and community partners.
But we don’t consider it an ending, but a new beginning. We are proud of our ongoing work to build more affordable homes for more future homeowners in the Vancouver communities.
For families like Brian’s, the completion of their new home represents a profound shift. “It’s a big deal. We haven’t had a house in my family for a few generations. It definitely breaks that generational poverty,” Starbuck shared. This sentiment encapsulates the heart of our mission — it’s not just about putting a roof over heads, but creating opportunities that last for generations to come.
The day of the celebration for the remaining two homeowners in Johnson Village to receive their keys was filled with joy, community, and celebration. The program included a performance by Las Bonitas Ballet Folklorico and tamales catered by Chalita's Tamales. The program included volunteer recognition by Director of Community Engagement and Impact, Heather Cochrun, as well as words from CEO, Josh Townsley.
Gathered around by volunteers, supporters, families, and kids playing on bikes, the scene was the perfect picture that captured what our work is all about: community.
